Two movies which Josh truly enjoyed this year are “Ant-Man” and “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.” They are also movies which few, himself included, may have pegged as creatively successful while they were still in production.
There have been greater and lesser (far lesser) installments in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, who would have thought they would nearly achieve the lofty heights of the first entry here, almost 19 years later. And what about “Ant-Man,” with its comedic look at the Marvel world, with its story about a guy who doesn’t have a superpower and who didn’t create the technology he’s using to give himself super-abilities would have worked. He’s like Rhodey except with a criminal background instead of a military one and as much as I like Rhodey, I don’t see him getting a solo movie.
But, here we are, at the end of 2015, a year that saw both a great “Mission: Impossible” movie and an exceptionally clever and creative “Ant-Man.”
Today, Josh ruminates on both those things.
