“Spiral,” “Army of the Dead,” and Movie Webs


Although I regularly think of moviegoing as a near religious experience, another thought came into my mind recently — what if we looked at movies as akin to a spider’s web?  Surely you’ve had this happen to you before.  You know, you watch one movie and something in it sparks you to watch something else and then that one convinces you to watch another movie.  On and on and on it goes down the line until you’re incredibly far from your first film, but they’re all inextricably tied together.

It could be an actor that causes this to happen.  It could be a theme.  A director.  A combination of all these things, but somehow, some way, you’ve built yourself a cinematic web and you didn’t even need a Spider-Man to do it.
