One of the arguments you may have heard against hte work of J.J. Abrams is that he’s always borrowing from something else, he’s always taking something that’s already been done, rejiggering it slightly, tossing in lens flare, and sending it off into the world. Okay, but maybe that’s a strength. Maybe Abrams understands, as we argue in general with this podcast, that movies do not exist in a vacuum; that they speak to and about other films, other bits of culture, and our world in general.
Take a listen to this week’s podcast as we delve into “Super 8,” which is now out on 4K UHD, and take this idea for a spin.
