Perhaps you can have too much of a good thing.  Perhaps it is possible.

Out this month on Blu-ray are both “The Fabelmans” and “Empire of Light.” The former is from Steven Spielberg and a semi-autobiographical work, while the latter is from Sam Mendes and features a main character similar to his mother although in a fictional tale.  And… one is a work of pure genius and truly excellent, while the other is something of a let down.  Or, gripping vs. grasping if you will.
