We do not want to take anything away from the accomplishment of “Avatar: The Way of Water.” The movie is absolutely astounding on a visual level. The effort that it took to make the movie is quite evident. The insane amounts of money it took to make it is also evident. Of that there can be no doubt.
Less evident? Well, that much money was spent on the story. For a film that looks so incredibly good, for a film that is supposed to have so many sequels, for a film that is supposed to revolutionize what we expect of envelope-pushing technology, the story isn’t just lackluster, it’s worse than that.
