Director Nick Hamm has taken a real event, a 2006 trip taken by Ian Paisley and Martin McGuinness in the middle of the peace talks attempting to resolve the conflict in Northern Ireland, and fictionalized what happened while the two men were together.
Why fictionalize this conversation? Why not make a documentary? How do you even approach such a thing for audiences who may not be well versed in either man’s history or the conflict itself? Hamm sits down with us today to talk about all those things and more.
The movie itself is currently playing in New York and stars Colm Meaney (McGuinness) and Timothy Spall (Paisley). Take a listen to the interview below.
