What is an unnecessary sequel?

Correctly defined, it is a movie which doesn’t add to the legacy of the original (or any follow-ups). It is a movie that isn’t particularly good and won’t be remembered all that well.

If there is justice in this world–and I’m not sure there is–“Mary Poppins Returns” will not wind up languishing in that category. It is practically perfect in every way. It is not entirely perfect, but practically. In this week’s podcast we discuss just where it works and where it doesn’t and more.
